SPLENECTOMY VACCINATION GUIDELINE

Overwhelming post-splenectomy infection (OPSI) is the most severe complication of splenectomy.

The main agents involved are pneumococcus (57%), Haemophilus influenzae type b (6%), and meningococcus (4%).

Hence  vaccines are recommended in splenectomized Patients.
